WINNING ASPIRATIONS IN COMUPUTING

Estefania Ortiz is a 2012 winner of the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award. Now a Stanford University student studying software development, Ortiz has gone on to intern at Microsoft and Facebook in her first two years of college. We recently spoke with Ortiz about what inspired her to apply for the award.

"When I applied to NCWIT I did not really see myself studying or working in Computer Science. In fact, I used to say I wanted to be any type of engineer except for a Computer Engineer. The reason I applied was because I happened to be working on an app at the Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico for my science fair project. Luckily this project was available when I was searching for ideas, and it was my introduction to the world of Software Development.
